See what is really flying.
Day and night.
AreaInspect develops smart monitoring units with thermal imaging and 4K cameras, acoustic sensors and AI recognition. For bats and birds at wind turbines and buildings, and for wild bees at insect hotels.
Developed by ecologists, built for the field.
Measure. Recognise. Report.
Thermal imaging and 4K
Thermal cameras track bats and birds in the dark and record their flight paths in 3D. 4K cameras follow wild bees right up to the nest hole, showing who flies in and out of each opening.
Sound recording
An ultrasonic bat detector records bat calls and a bird microphone captures song and flight calls. Every sound is linked to the camera image from the same moment.
AI recognition and software
Our own software recognises species groups in images and sound, counts animals flying in and out, and filters out leaves, rain and noise. Uncertain cases are checked by an ecologist.
- image recognition and 3D tracking of flight movements
- acoustic analysis of bats and birds
- online dashboard with map, alerts and export to GIS, Excel and PDF
- models that keep improving with new field footage
Daily report
Every morning, the results of the past night and day are ready in a clear dashboard and report, with charts per hour, per location and per species group. For important observations you receive an immediate alert by email or app:
- a collision or casualty at a wind turbine
- a bat roost entrance found
- an Asian hornet detected
- a fault or outage of the monitoring unit
AreaInspect Monitoring Unit
Mobile thermal imaging unit for bats and birds, at small wind turbines and at buildings. One unit, two applications.
What's inside
- Telescopic mast from 3 to 6 metres
- Two thermal cameras for 3D stereo, plus a third camera
- Built-in bat detector and bird microphone
- Computer, 4G and GPS in a locked base
- Mains power or LiFePO4 batteries, no fuel
- Rugged, vandal-resistant housing with ballast base
Set-up at a small wind turbine
The unit stands about 20 to 25 metres south of the turbine, with the mast at 5.8 metres. Both thermal cameras look at the rotor together and record flight movements in 3D.
Set-up at a building
The unit stands about 10 metres diagonally in front of a building corner, with the mast at 3.8 metres. The left camera looks at the left facade, the right camera at the right facade.
AreaInspect Smart Bee Hotel
Smart monitoring for insect hotels: three 4K cameras and AI that count which insects fly in and out of each nest hole.
- Suitable for existing and new insect hotels
- Each nest hole has its own ID in the digital register
- Three 4K cameras on a vandal-resistant unit, 1.3 m in front of the nest wall
- Recognises solitary bees, honeybees, bumblebees, wasps and hoverflies
- Alert for a possible Asian hornet
- Own solar panel and 4G, no mains power or Wi-Fi needed
Per nest hole
Arrivals and departures, times and occupancy per hole.

How it works
- 01
Install
We install the unit on site, aim the cameras at the wind turbine, building or insect hotel and calibrate everything on the spot.
- 02
Measure
The unit records autonomously, day and night, with cameras and microphones. Only the relevant clips are sent via 4G.
- 03
Analyse
AI recognises and counts the animals and their flight movements. An ecologist checks the uncertain cases, so the results are reliable.
- 04
Report
You receive a daily report and a clear final report: a reliable basis for protecting and enhancing nature at your site. All data is also available in the dashboard.
Who it's for
- Provinces and municipalities
- Ecological consultancies
- Owners of (small) wind turbines
- Housing associations and construction companies
- Nature conservation organisations
- Beekeeping associations and schools
